Green Power Choices

Electricity generated from renewable energy resources with low environmental impact can be purchased in Venice:

  1. Renewable Energy Credits - individuals and organizations can buy rights to renewable electricity generated on their behalf. Credits can be purchased for your home or business from certified retailers at rates ranging from $0.005/kWh to $0.03/kWh or more. Renewable energy credits (REC's) can also be given as gifts.
  2. On-site Generation - federal, state, and local funding is available for installing on-site solar panels, wind turbines, and fuel cells.
  3. LADWP Green Power - renewable electricity consisting of 25% small hydro-electric and 75% wind power may be purchased from LADWP for a premium of $0.03/kWh. Signup as residential and small non-residential or medium and large non-residential. LADWP has applied for green power certification.

100% Clean Electricity by 2018

On July 17, 2008 Al Gore challenged America to produce 100% of our electricity from energy sources with zero carbon emissions - and to do so within 10 years.

Green Power Purchasers

Leading Venice businesses are buying green power to help support the development of renewable energy while also helping protect the environment.

Whole Foods Market received the EPA Green Power Partner of the Year award in 2006 and 2007, and continues to be ranked as a top green power purchaser. In its North American locations, Whole Foods Market offsets 100% of its electricity with wind energy credits. Read more.

Purchasing Benefits

The electricity you purchase can be a major source of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Buying green power can help:

  • Reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
  • Avoid future electricity price increases
  • Generate customer and employee pride and positive publicity
